  1. DEFEND EGGEBECK AIRFIELD
  2.  
  3. On April 11, 1945, the Eighth Air Force
  4. high command issued a field order that
  5. banned all strafing.  Due to the 
  6. presence of Allied troops in close
  7. proximity to many German airfields, 
  8. American fighter pilots were not allowed 
  9. to strafe ground targets for fear of 
  10. hitting friendly troops.  Nevertheless, 
  11. for some fighter groups, parked enemy 
  12. aircraft proved to be irresistable
  13. targets.

  15. On April 13th, the 56th FG took full
  16. advantage of such an opportunity at 
  17. Eggebeck airfield, near Kiel in Northern 
  18. Germany.  When they were through, the 
  19. Thunderbolt pilots of the 56th had 
  20. destroyed ninety-five enemy aircraft.

  24. As you and your flight leader patrol
  25. the area around Eggebeck airfield, you
  26. receive a message from ground control
  27. alerting you to enemy fighters flying
  28. toward the field.  Stay with your
  29. leader to intercept the incoming fighter-
  30. bombers and defend the airfield and the
  31. aircraft parked there.
